Giclée Fine Art Prints
Giclée Fine Art Prints (pronounced “gee-clay”) are extremely high quality, archival grade, digital prints that use a ultra fine inkjet printing process to produce images of intense colour and vibrancy. Giclée printing is widely regarded as one of the very best photographic and fine art printing methods currently available and has become extremely popular with artists and photographers displaying their images in art galleries, museums and exhibitions.
Although originally devised in America, the word “Giclée” comes from the French verb “to spray” and refers to the ink being sprayed onto the paper. This sophisticated digital reproduction technology utilizes light-fast and UV-resistant pigment based inks with more colours than regular printing to produce beautiful digital reproductions that last much longer than those produced using traditional commercial fine art printing techniques. The Giclée inks are lightfast to a extremely high standard and are designed to be printed onto specially developed archival quality papers. The results are superb quality prints with unparalleled vibrancy and detail that should literally last well over a lifetime.
Besides the brilliant colour, sharp definition, and eye-catching visual quality of our Giclée Prints, their digital nature means that they can be reproduced exactly the same, time after time, even years apart. This makes our Giclée Fine Art Prints perfectly suited to limited edition prints and art gallery sales. We have printed Giclée Fine Art Prints for some of the finest artists and photographers and our resulting works can be seen in some of the worlds' most famous galleries including the The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Although best known for their colour vibrancy, many of the Giclée Prints we produce are “RGB Black and White” files that print at least as good if not better than traditional black and white printing. You have all the advantages of digital file manipulation and digital printing. You can even successfully reproduce effects like sepia and selenium toning to give your prints an extra visual dimension.

The Giclée Printing Process
We can create Giclée Fine Art Prints from your original transparencies, colour or black and white negatives, digital files or from original works of art up to 40x30". If you are providing us with a digital file it should be saved in Adobe RGB (1998). If you supply us with a transparency or negative it will be scanned in to transfer your image into the digital workspace. With original works of art we can either scan them in directly or for delicate or larger items, expertly photograph your original and then scan the resulting transparency.
Our highly experienced and expert Giclée printers will then make sure your image is optimised to our very carefully controlled ICC workflow and make any adjustments as necessary. We'll then run your print and inspect it to make sure that it is as good as it can possibly be. If it's not absolutely perfect we'll do it again until it is – at no extra cost to you.
We treat photographic printing as an art, and give each of our Giclée Prints intense individual attention. We help all our customers achieve exactly what they want from their image, rather than just push images through a machine all day long. We offer a very personal and bespoke service, so you can speak to one of our team and describe exactly what you want your image to be like – and we'll meet your brief.

Frequently asked questions about Giclée Prints
How long do Giclée Fine Art Prints last?
A lot of research and development has gone into the various aspects and materials that make up a Giclée Fine Art Print. The archival nature of the print varies according to the pigment based inks used, the archival properties of the paper selected and even more importantly the environment in which the print is displayed or stored. Current expert scientific opinion is that on one of our recommended papers our Giclée Prints will last at least 100 years in good environmental conditions.
How big can you make a Giclée Print?
We are only limited by the physical size of archival quality paper available. All our archival papers are produced on a roll, so that we can print virtually the full width and the entire length of the roll. This is currently 60 inches by 12 metres, or 40 inches by 24 metres.
