Drum Scanning
For those seeking the highest quality colour reproduction, Drum Scanning is the only real answer. Drum Scanning is unrivaled by any other scanning method despite recent advances in imaging technology and is the key to reproducing your image as a great photographic print.
Most scanning for professional Photographers and Photo Libraries is for the very best quality Drum Scans from film based images. Your original transparencies or negatives are first removed from any mounts, then coated on both sides with a specially designed fluid that does not harm the film in any way. The fluid helps eliminate any irregularities in the film such as grain, minute scratches and also removes Newton rings. The film and fluid are then sandwiched in an optically clear acrylic sheet. This clear acrylic sheet is then pulled tight and fixed in position against the drum. The drum is a nearly perfect cylinder, machined and polished to be optically clear. In operation, the drum spins at high rpm and precision optics capture immense amounts of image information from your transparency or negative. Images are then saved and recorded to CD as per your specification.
Our high-end Crosfield Drum Scanner is capable of scanning transparencies, colour or black and white negatives, and even prints and flat artwork up to A3 size, in either RGB or CMYK, sharply capturing every single detail in your image and giving cleaner, more accurate colour.
If you want the absolute best quality in a scan, it has to be a Drum Scan.
